The Lever Pulled are an acoustic based trio from Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Influenced by musical artists such as John Frusciante, Matthew Good, The White Stripes, Hayden, Eels, Bob Dylan, etc., the band is open to and explores diverse musical directions while keeping within their acoustic framework. Members Mark Hoyles, Brent MacLean, and Mark Green write, perform, record, and produce all of the song material as well as conceptualizing, designing, and producing the artwork and photography for the Cd covers and inserts.
In late 2004 MacLean and Hoyles completed what would be their first Cd under the band name "The Rest" (later changed to "The Lever Pulled" - a John Frusciante song title). The vast majority of the 15 track Cd was taken from 4 track cassette recordings from various locations from St. John's to Corner Brook. The photography on and inside the Cd were taken by the band on the day the disc was completed.
"Just Inside The End" was completed three months after the first, in January of 2005. The nearly hour-long Cd (17 tracks) has much more layering than the previous Cd and was actually recorded twice because of a computer failure. The pictures that appear on this album are all of the curtains that hung around the room in which the Cd was recorded.
The third Cd entitled "The Worst Part of Freezing" was written and recorded during the months of January - May 2005. This 16 track Cd contains more synth and keyboards than the previous recordings. The cover photographs taken by Mark Hoyles are of ice covered cliffs around the Corner Brook area.
"Manual Focus" is The Lever Pulled's fourth release, recorded from May to September 2005. The art work on "Manual Focus" is a mix of pictures that the guys took on a deserted Sunday in September as well as photos of trees that Mark took on a hike up a mountain in August. It was just prior to the completion and release of "Manual Focus that the band changed their name from "The Rest" to "The Lever Pulled."
In 2006 The Lever Pulled released the compilation Cd "Nearing Three".
"(a)way", The Lever Pulled's 5th release, saw a major change in songwriting and song execution. The reason for this change being twofold: Firstly, the time between "Manual Focus" and "(a)way" was the longest break the band had taken since recording their first disc. Secondly, the addition of musician/songwriter Mark Green added a whole new dimension of song approach and song delivery. Many of the tracks on "(a)way" were shaped through jam sessions with all three members contributing ideas and instrumentation. "(a)way" contains much more depth in melodies due in no small part to Green's intricate and original bass-lines. The cover photo was taken with Mark Hoyles' Mac at Brent's apartment on West Street during one recording session. The back cover is a photo taken by Brent of a tattered "Lever Pulled" show poster he saw taped to a gazebo during one of his walks through the Majestic lawn in Corner Brook. The Cd was completed in August of 2007. "(a)way" is available for FREE download at the top of this page.
February 9th, 2008 saw the release of "cloudwork", The Lever Pulled's 6th Cd since 2004. Initial recording was done with the guys sending one another ideas and recorded tracks over the Internet as three of them were living in three different cities. When all three were in Corner Brook for the Christmas holidays they recorded almost daily to complete the Cd. The cover photographs were taken by Brent at the laboratory where he was employed. "cloudwork" is now available for FREE download in the play-list at the top of this page.
Recording is now underway for the next album.

Lead Places Jun 20
"....when I was a child I was fascinated by dead end roads. I'm not sure what the allure was. Maybe it was just the label - a "Dead End" - I mean, what are roads but wide paths that lead places? Given that definition, I guess I was confused when I realized there were roads that lead nowhere...."

thanks so much It's ironic, but as a bass, I'm always really amazed by the great tenors out there, and I'd have to say that whichever one of you happens to be hitting those high notes (particularly in Wise Move) is one of them. I'm just finishing up my first reading of the dark tower, and it's awesome that there's finally someone else who has read them. None of my friends seem too interested... Anyway, keep up the amazing music; There isn't a whole lot left in this pop-driven world of ours
